“The thesis was to show people how it felt to be black, and you can’t really write that down, you have to feel it. the tonal aspect was really important to me.” -Donald Glover
So many reasons why the highly anticipated FX series Atlanta heightened my love for working in the entertainment industry. Written, Executive Produced, and starring Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino the storyline follows Glover (Earnest Marks), his rapper cousin, Alfred Miles (Brian Tyree Henry), and their eccentric friend Darius (keith Stanfield) as they hustle to get to the top of the ATL rap scene. As the assistant to the very talented and eclectic Costume Designer Kairo Courts I was able to have my hands in everything from shopping to fittings, driving around picking up,dropping off, and returning almost anything you can imagine in costume. When I decided two years ago this was the career for me I prayed that the universe would continue to make me apart of project’s that has a purpose and creates change wether behind or in front of the camera. Atlanta did both.
Blessings come when you believe. It has been less than six months and I am already living and learning the life of a Costume Designer. With the help of Theatrical Outfit introducing me to Elizabeth Rasmussen I was honored to assist her and the talented Andrew Hobson with creating the wardrobe for a very humorous and girl power periodic play titled Silent Sky.
A description of the play from Theatrical Outfit’s website,
Atlanta native Lauren Gunderson’s riveting exploration of the life and career of real-life celebrated astronomer Henrietta Swan Leavitt (1868-1921) takes us on a humorous, heartwarming and motivating journey as this one-of-a-kind superstar fearlessly asserts herself in the turn-of-the-century world of Harvard’s male-driven observatory, ultimately touching the wondrous outer reaches of our very universe – proof that the human mind and heart truly knows no limits! Theatrical Outfit very proudly presents the regional premiere of Silent Sky.
It is showing at Theatrical Outfit until March 8. For details and tickets click here.
My mother and I attended 11am service at the new Ebenezer Baptist Church Atlanta last Sunday then proceeded over to the original church for a moment of silence and chill that left me questioning, When am I going to do what I am supposed to do?
If you do not know the history behind Ebenezer Baptist Church you definitely know this name, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He lead the spiritual place alongside his father as the co- pastor until his passing; also placing it as one of the hearts of the Civil Rights Movement. Women, men, boys, and girls would all congregate to hear him and a plethora of other’s activist speak and motivate equality for all.
The quote above posted in the historical church reminded me that God moves us in directions to change the world wether big or small. When you act on his calling of love it leads to your true purpose but because it is not built on your 9-5 job and most of the time you may not get anything back, not even a thank you, we avoid those calling of conspiring with the universe to do good for others.
You are on this path and one day you decide to stop. You just sit down in the middle of the divider with your legs crossed in a lotus like position and all day you look each way deciding if you wanna go back or move forward. That’s what summed up my day yesterday.

Seems like everything is catching up with me and I’m walking on this journey with three of those hiking backpacks plus two rolling luggages. Not those new hard shell luggages that need wheel alignment’s but the cloth ones that was passed down to you because you needed one and your aunt was throwing things out. A big load! So yesterday I made the decision to put all of it down and just marinate. What if I just go back? It’ll be easier but unhappy. What if I just stopped? Then I’ll create a road block because all my shit will be piled up. What if I get up and keep going? Eventually my load will lighten as I continue to step and I will be happy that I kept going to finish this journey. So whether you are juggling two jobs or none, have a mate or children to deal with, or can’t decide if you want apples or oranges…. Take a seat, breathe, and get up but just keep going.
Yesterday my hubbae and I took a trip to the Starlight Drive-in, a outside theatre that becomes what the website describes as a good ol’ “swap meet” on the weekends. Still exploring our neighborhood we decided to take the 20 minute walk up Moreland Ave with the intentions to browse and not to buy. However, when we set our eyes on the first appealing piece of furniture I immediately placed us on the HGTV tv show Flea Market Flip. A segment where teams of two search to find three pieces of furniture at the flea market to up-cycle and sell at another market for profit. The team that makes the most wins. We played around with a couple ideas from finds we saw but with the notion that we could come back. That was until the last hour we discovered a pair of distressed wooden bar stools. Tempted but not sold we were about to walk away until the seller said,”It is the last hour, I can give it to you for $10.00.” And suddenly we were walking up the dusty road with stools over our shoulder. Can not wait to see the finished results.
Flea Market Flip Tips:
1. End of the day equals end of the day deals: Sellers want to sell. So the last hour they will go further down in prices to get rid of the merchandise.
2. You can always bargain: If the seller say $150 counteract with $100. You will be surprised what the answer could be.
3. Make them sweat: If a seller is acting as if a bargain is not in the cards. Walk away for a few, they will more than likely come down on the price.
PRO: Mouth watering food places I never knew existed like Chick-fil-a, Papadaux, and American Deli.
Cons: Im gaining weight!
I’m not on the verge of rolling down the stairs but indulging on my honeymoon for two weeks then settling in my new home state of Atlanta, Georgia I think I have managed to gain some of the pounds I diligently lost throughout the year. What is even more of a bummer is my $25.00 a year membership from 24Hour Fitness is insignificant because there is not one within 20 mile radius, making the need to exercise daily a mission. Therefore I have to rely on my neighborhood runs with 20 minute workouts to keep me right throughout the majority of the week. Here are a couple that have helped my buns reach the peak of steel when I could not hit the gym
I know the instructors hairstyle reflects the date of this video but I like it because it is basic Pilates. Keeps me stretched and toned until I can hit the gym for the weight training. Read More

Life has vastly changed since I last posted.Since April I have become a Mrs., left my job of thirteen years, and moved from California to Atlanta. The road has been a little bumpy with a few road blocks but for the most part some amazing moments has took place. One of the best has to be becoming Mrs. Elder and beginning our lives together with a two week trip to Europe. Go to our blog to view more.
