Thurgood at Theatrical Outfit

thurgood

None of us got where we are solely by pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps. We got here because somebody – a parent, a teacher, an Ivy League crony or a few nuns – bent down and helped us pick up our boots.-Thurgood Marshall

My favorite theatre in Atlanta,Theatrical Outfit, just started a new season and the theme is Hope. I was asked to use my talent to costume the production of Thurgood. Played by theatre vet Geoffrey D. Williams this one man show tells the story of Thurgood Marshall the first African American to have a seat in the Sepreme Court Justice. This play comes at a crucial time in our country with so much racial and political divide it exemplifies not only hope but solutions.Read a more detailed description from TO website below:

Based on the life and career of the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, this riveting narrative charts Thurgood Marshall’s evolution from back-alley Baltimore, to Howard University law school, to his fight for equality in the South, all the way to a seat on the highest court in the land in 1967. In addition to his victorious challenge of segregation in Brown vs. Board of Education, humorous and inspiring milestones of Marshall’s journey reveal the remarkable brilliance, perseverance and hope of one of the greatest American heroes of all time.

Mississippi Film Festival: The Perfect Sacrifice

Mississippi Film Festival African American Black Film Festival in New York

Harlem International Film Festival

LA Short Film Festival in Los Angeles

And now Mississippi Film Festival! The Perfect Sacrifice is on a roll!  Mississippi is such a important festival to be a part of because Emmett Till was brutally murdered there. During that time we would have been shunned for highlighting the mother of Emmett Till’s experience of having a open casket at his funeral and hurt or even killed for being honored in the city it took place in. America has came a long way yet we still have a long way to go. Let’s keep moving.

Marshall Nash Fall 14′ Collection

Marshall Nash

Discomfort. You know the feeling when you decide to put on a outfit that looks so good on you but while you are receiving compliments all you could think about is going home and changing. Well not with Marshall Nash Fall 14′  collection.I got the pleasure of playing dress up while my photographer/husband did a mini photoshoot in our new home.

Marshall Nash

After wearing the matching boucle’ “Party Queen” Sweatsuit and the “Soiree Sashay” dress I would best describe the collection as a sexy comfort; two items that I would take from day to night and never fret . The sweatsuit could be dressed with heels or sneakers and also comes in gray and black; the dress slides on like a slip but with added sexy details such as the extended neckline and the zipped racer back.

Nasty Gal lace and my custom headpiece

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

I wore this beautiful cream lace dress for my bridal shower and my headpiece my lovely friend made to compliment my reception dress. I love them both equally!  The NastyGal dress has so many unique details that if was not a soft solid color you would think it was to busy to wear.  I envisioned an epic shoot in Paris. somewhere in the nook of one of those massive historical sites like the Lourve or Notre Dame but since the cold weather did not permit a outside shoot and I settled for snapshots in my favorite part of our temporary apartment.

London Telephone Booth

Paula Renee, london

Hey Mates, I AM IN LONDON! So expect a lot of tele photos. They fire engine booths are at almost every corner going into the city and being that they are the ghost of the past in the states it is exciting to know that London still has kept the historic booths. I am wearing my new fave tank from a brand at Urban Outfitters Silence + Noise. It is so comfy and sexy. I mean my Vicki Secret bra helps with the perkyness but the draping on the racerback shirt is so feminine.

Signs of a good pair of jeans: GAP 1969 legging Jeans

gap 1969 legging jeans

Met my friend Jenn for lunch and she looked awesome with only a white t-shirt, denims, and a pair of heels. When she was complimented, she immediately mentioned she had on a new pair of Gap 1969 legging jeans and the aha moment came. Here are my top 5 signs you have on a good pair of jeans:

IMG_0127

  1.  The moment you put them on you look 5 pounds lighter.
  2. You attempt to wear them twice in one week.
  3. You can itemize them with simple shirt and not feel so simple.
  4. When your shirt goes up it doesn’t reveal that gravity has not taken your jeans down to your ass crack.
  5. The compliments keep flowing about how good you look and you give it all to the jeans like you don’t look good too.

Sarah JehanUnedited shot of a shoot I did with photographer Sarah Jehan. It has been awhile since I have styled so it was a pleasure to ease back in with her and MUA Inna Matthews. Both ladies are chill, know what they want, and are very talented. Can not wait to see the real deal. Unsigned model Jenna Nagle was perfect for the outside lingerie themed shoot. To be continued.

Throwback Thursday: Braids.

IMG_4003

I have been all natural for the past two months and during the process all I could think about is another hairstyle. While I do see healthy changes in my hair I can not wait to switch it up and until I figure out a permanent hairstyle I want braids!
